Two catastrophic earthquakes have brought the country to its knees. The death toll is rising by the hour. The Red Cross is already on the ground, but your immediate support is urgently needed.
The situation is critical, and the death toll is expected to rise.
On June 24, just 40 seconds apart, two extremely powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude devastated north-central Venezuela. This is the strongest earthquake to strike the country in the last 126 years.
Entire residential complexes and dozens of buildings have been completely destroyed. Hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands have been injured, but the toll is expected to continue rising.
The scale of the destruction has made communication with the affected areas extremely difficult. Telephone and power networks are largely out of service, the international airport has been closed due to severe structural collapses, and gas supplies have been suspended for safety reasons.
National authorities have declared a state of emergency and immediately launched search-and-rescue operations. Everyone's support is needed now to help contain the impact of this tragedy.
